Pliny the Younger
Gnaeus Plinius Secundus, better known as Pliny the Younger, was a Roman aristocrat and senator, the nephew of Pliny the Elder, who held a series of official positions under the Emperor Trajan, culminating in his governorship of Pontus-Bithynia. He published nine books of literary letters dealing with diverse topics and issues. His correspondance with Trajan, in particular dealing with his governorship, was published, probably after his death, as a tenth book and constitutes some of our most important evidence for provincial government. It also includes the first contemporary account of the Christians from a Roman perspective. This translation was originally translated by William Melmoth, revised by F. C. T. Bosanquet, and further revised by myself in 2010.
